This 34x-bolt kit replaces the fixings securing the original external engine covers listed below on the Honda VT1100C Shadow 1997–1999. The allocation separates the casing and secondary cover positions, so you can see exactly which mounting groups are included.

Where alternative references are identified, they describe the same fixing positions rather than additional kit contents or a claimed supersession.
Important fitment notes
- Compatibility: For Honda VT1100C Shadow 1997–1999 with the original cover arrangement listed above. Check the exact year, variant and fitted covers before installation.
- Correct position: Keep the mounting groups separated and match each replacement to its intended hole. Bolts for different cover positions are not automatically interchangeable.
- Materials: The supplied cover bolts are A2 (304) stainless steel. Their head appearance may differ from Honda’s originals.
- Exclusions: Covers, gaskets, seals, dowels, drain plugs, drain bolts, sealing washers, internal engine fixings and unrelated bracket fixings are not included.
The supplied decorative-cover allocation is for motorcycles with that original outer cover fitted. Some original variants have a different exterior cover arrangement; not every supplied decorative fixing is used on every variant. Retain Honda’s separate water-pump cover stud and support parts. The pump drain bolt and internal generator fixings are excluded.
This allocation is for the later original cover arrangement. Earlier 1992–1996 hydraulic-clutch variants use different covers and fixings and are outside this kit’s verified fitment.
When should you replace engine-cover bolts?
- Corroded or marked heads: Inspect the cover fixings before removal or servicing.
- Damaged threads or worn drive recesses: Replace unsuitable hardware and check the corresponding engine threads.
- Cover servicing: Check each fixing position and the sealing components before reassembly.
New bolts cannot repair a cracked cover, damaged sealing face, stripped thread or failed gasket. Investigate oil or coolant leaks rather than relying on extra tightening.
Fitting the engine casing bolts
- Follow Honda’s procedure for the exact cover, including draining fluids and renewing sealing components where required.
- Match every bolt to its original position, start it by hand and use Honda’s specified tightening order, torque and thread condition.
- Use anti-seize or other compounds only where the applicable instructions specify them. The included pack is not an instruction to lubricate every fixing.
- After assembly, check the relevant fluid levels and inspect disturbed covers for leaks. Have damaged threads or uncertain work checked by a qualified motorcycle technician.
For general advice, read our guide to protecting aluminium mounting threads. Honda’s workshop procedure takes precedence.
